Obituary of Howard Hamner

Mr. Howard L. Hamner departed this life August 26, 2011 at the age of 91 years, 1 month, and 3 days old.
He has been an active member of Killen United Methodist Church since August 1958 where he served as a past board and trustee member and sang in the choir. He and his wife, Elizabeth were custodians for many years. He was a member of the Buddy Lemaster Sunday School Class.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Beavers Hamner; parents William Robert Hamner and Mary Stutts Hamner; two sisters, Elvie Peck and Edith Nichols; and one brother Hunter Hamner.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 PM Sunday, August 28 at Killen United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM at the church with Rev. Bryan McIntyre and Rev. Jim Webster officiating. Burial will follow at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. Greenhill Funeral Home is assisting the family.
He is survived by: one daughter, Jimmie Burns; two sons, Roger (Mary) and Douglas (Doris); four grandsons , Randy Burns, Joel Hamner (Laura), Wesley Hamner (Heather), Darrell (Amber); one granddaughter Michelle Clanton (Tony); Seven great-grandsons, Bryce Burns (Brittney), Blake Burns, Ben, Ethan, Samuel, and Tristan Hamner, and Micaden Clanton; Four Great-granddaughters, Mackenzie Clanton, Maddie, Lauren, and Kathryn Hamner; One great-great grandson, Dakota Burns; Six brothers, Herschel, Horace, Hollie, Troy, George and John; Three sisters, Agnes Clemons, Irma Estes and Martha Burrow; One Brother-in-law, James Beavers. Several nieces and nephews and hosts of friends and a very special friend, Patricia Young.
He was retired from TVA. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific Theater during World War II.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be the Buddy Lemaster Sunday School Class.
A special thanks to all of the wonderful Doctors and Nurses who cared for our Daddy during his time at the Vanderbilt University Hospital ICU Burn Unit. Thanks to all of our church family and friends for your many prayers and calls during this time.
Memorial may be made to the Killen United Methodist Church Building Fund.
