Norman Ray Woolum, 74, died Friday, May 27, 2011, of an extended illness. He was a native of Barbourville, KY. Norman resided in Florence, AL for the past 22 years. He retired from General Motors after 32 years of service. He was a member of the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. He enjoyed Kentucky Wildcat Basketball and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley Gamble Woolum of Florence. He has 4 children: Charlotte Scott and husband Bobby of Greenhill; Elizabeth Fenech and husband Richard of Emmett, MI; Anthony Woolum of Carlton, MI; and Matthew Woolum and girlfriend Angie Morris of Florence. He has three grandchildren: Amanda Farris of Florence; Stephanie Scott Watson of Antioch, TN; and Samantha Woolum of Southgate, MI. He has three great-grandchildren: Devon, James and Austin Offutt of Florence. His brother Morris Woolum and wife Sandy of Independence, KY. His sister Merle Woolum Barrett of Covington, KY. Sister-in-laws include Nadine Lash of Greenhill, Alene Gamble of St.Joseph and Phyllis Woolum of KY
He was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Laural Jarvis Woolum and his in-laws Will and Mattie Myrick Gamble of Greenhill. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Tom and Marvin Woolum of KY and by a grandchild, Richard Sabastian Fenech of Emmett, MI. He was survived by friends including Lynne Fenech and a host of nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be Saturday, May 28, 2011 from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Greenhill Funeral Home. The service will be in the chapel Sunday at 2:00 P.M. Burial will follow at Emmaline Stutts Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Mid-South Wiregrass Hospice and staff for their hospitality. He may be gone but he will never be forgotten.
