Obituary of Troy Townsend

Troy Ray Townsend, 89, of Florence, AL, passed away November 19, 2013 after an extended illness. Mr. Townsend was a retired Environmental Manager for Occidental Chemicals, a school teacher at Rogers School, and worked at TVA. Mr. Townsend was also a United States Navy veteran of World War II where he served as a Navy First Class Gunners Mate. Mr. Townsend was a member of Lone Cedar Church of Christ.
Survivors include:
Wife: Virginia Christine Thompson Townsend
Son: Thomas Edward "Tommy" Townsend (Amy) of Hoover, AL
Daughters: Evonne Rae Haygood (David) of Florence and Teresa Jan Hurst (Stanley) of Florence
Grandchildren: Heather Hall, Ross Haygood, Maggie Hurst Martin, Sam Hurst, and Rebecca Townsend
Great-grandchildren: Ashton Box, Layken Box, Chasity Hall, Fred Hall, and Blair Haygood
Sister-in-law: Eula Mae Townsend
Several nieces and nephews
Mr. Townsend was preceded in death by his parents James Edward and Maggie King Townsend; brothers James Edward Townsend, Jr. and Willard Townsend; and his sisters Waymon Hutchins and Wylmadine Pace.
Visitation will be Friday 22, 2013 from 9:30-10:30 A.M. at Lone Cedar Church of Christ. The funeral service will follow at 10:30 with Bro. Tim Grigsby officiating. Burial will be in Lone Cedar Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Haygood, Stanley Hurst, Ross Haygood, Sam Hurst, Fred Hall, and David Townsend.
The family would like to send special thanks to Glenwood Convalescent staff, Dr. Webb, and especially Station B at Glenwood.
The family request donations be made to Alzheimer's research or Lone Cedar Church of Christ cemetery fund in Mr. Townsend's name.
