When I was born, Shane was 4. Outside of our adult family members, Shane and Saundra were my first "friends" and cousins. He and I were very close growing up through our early childhood. I always knew he was there if I needed anything and he knew the same went for me. He moved to Alabama for many years, but we remained pretty close cousins and friends. He then returned to Georgia and met the love of his life, Amanda. Their first date was my wedding reception (who asks a girl on their first date and brings them to a gay wedding reception? especially back in 2011). I ended up officiating their wedding a few years later. Amanda was like a star, she shined for the world to see. Amanda passed of COVID and Shane lost that sparkle, and grieved the loss deeply. Then his mom passed and things became grim for Shane, but he continued to fight cancer. He fought hard for three years. He is now rejoicing with Amanda, Sheila, Nanny, Pawpaw, Tyler, Shanna, and so many other family members who went before him.
