My mother Sarah and Letha have been friends for 15 years and have talked on the phone every day. They went to lunch each weekend and had their traditional yard sale adventures. If I asked if I needed anything you could bet Letha would find it for you. She was never able to have children and told my sister and I we were her daughters. I will miss calling her for advice and seeing her name pop up on my phone as “Mama #2”. This is cliche but she wasn’t 61 years old, she was 61 years young. She loves going to the mountains and riding the motorcycle with Shawn. They had a relationship where they could tell each other like it was and I know he will miss her sass and how they always made my mom laugh listening to them. My favorite story is when they were on a road trip and Shawn was driving. There was a huge balloon monkey on the side of the road that distracted his driving and he and Letha argued whether it was an orange monkey with purple feet or a purple monkey with orange feet. My mom said it didn’t matter because Shawn needs to pay attention the road instead of debating! They told that story a hundred times still laughing just as hard from the first. There are so many fun memories my mom could paint a picture of. We love you Letha and will miss you so much.
I know Letha is finally out of the pain that has racked her body for so long now, but I am going to miss her for the rest of my life. She was the sister of my heart.
