Sue Edna Hill Allen, 81, of Florence, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 after bravely battling a prolonged illness.
Sue was born in 1935, where she spent her childhood in Lexington, AL. She fell in love with her future husband, Edwin Allen, at the age of 15. They married when she was 18, and lived the rest of their beautiful life together in Florence. She became a member of the Church of Christ when she was 18.
She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Edwin Allen, her daughter Nanette (Daniel) Casteel of Franklin, TN, her brothers R.V. (Shirley) Hill, Randall (Ann) Hill and her sister and dear friend Shelby Lash. She is also survived by her grandchildren Christine Harrower, Katherine (Jeremy) Bound, Allison (Michael) Jackson, Rebecca (Benjamin) Buchanan, Mallory (Nicholas) Tanner, Joshua Allen, and Madison (Bruce) Allen, and her five great-grandchildren Mason(Katie) Moss, Kinsley Bound, Brayden Bound, Eli Jackson, and Julia Jackson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lera and Richard Hill, her son Kim E. Allen, and her sister, Myra Jo Hill.
A dedicated wife, a doting mother, a remarkable grandmother, and an amazing great-grandmother, Sue was happiest when she was surrounded by family. She was a deeply kind person who found great joy in a simple joke, having adventures with her grandchildren, and taking care of her family.
She will forever be remembered for the boundless love she had for her family, her legendary spaghetti and red velvet cake, her wonderful sense of humor, and the sheer beauty and happiness she brought to everyone’s life. She will be remembered daily, but especially anytime there is a particularly stunning sunset.
Visitation will be Friday, February 17th at Greenhill Funeral Home in Florence, AL from 12:00pm, with the service at 2:00pm. Interment will proceed at Center Hill Church of Christ Cemetery. Miles Stutts will be officiating.
